Welcome to BlakeWrites

If you're like most of my readers, you're striving to be the best man you can be. You're working to live a well-rounded life, and push yourself to reach for greatness.

"Good enough" doesn't cut it for you when you can go above and beyond, which is also why you likely grow tired of other men's publications that treat misogyny and homophobia as the norm or reduce manhood to your ability to tie a bow tie or change the oil in your car.

You're kicking ass on your own as it is. BlakeWrites is just here to give you that extra push in the right direction and provide you with a community of support.

Does this Sound Like You?

We don't do BS around here, so be honest with yourself:

  • Do you ever feel feel burnt out from constantly pushing yourself to work harder, achieve more, or get in shape?
  • Do you get in ruts or seem to plateau for longer than you'd like?
  • Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed with trying to maintain balance amongst work, home, relationships, friendships, wellness, hobbies, and everything else on your plate?
  • Do you ever find yourself wishing you had a community of like-minded guys backing you up?

If you answered yes to any of these, you're definitely not alone. In fact, it was answering yes to each of these questions several years ago that prompted me to start BlakeWrites.

A Blog for Guys Like Me

I was always "that guy" that seemed to have his shit together. I was employed before I graduated, I moved across the country at 23, and I bought a house at 24. To many people, I was kicking ass.

The truth? Well, it felt like instead of kicking ass I was having my ass kicked.

Behind my outward success, I was burned out, depressed, out of shape, and generally unhappy with myself. When I turned to popular men's blogs and magazines, I just saw people who were more successful, more ripped, and wayyyyy wealthier. Their experiences didn't match mine. When they talked about their growth, it didn't resonate with me. Their experiences as successful men were nothing like mine and I couldn't relate.

I wanted a publication where guys who were less rich, less ripped, less traditionally masculine, and less connected could see their own growth and experiences; a place where white, ripped, straight guys weren't defaulted to as the norm; a blog where black guys, fat guys, trans guys, non-binary folks, muscular guys, short guys, tall guys, poor guys, uneducated guys, frat guys, guys of color, skinny guys, nerdy guys, dog lovers, and cat lovers could all be on the same playing field.

The result? Well, you're reading it.
