Even as a freelance fashion and lifestyle writer, I found myself not wanting to read guy-focused media. For years, I grew more and more frustrated with depictions of manhood and masculinity that depended upon money and muscles I'll likely never have. So often, men's content utilizes a very narrow definition of what it is to be a man: white, wealthy, and ripped.
While there's nothing wrong with being a wealthy, ripped white dude, that didn't describe my experience as a man, or the experiences of the many men in my life.
We need to see more walks of life represented, so that's what we do.
